Mission Statement:

The mission of the DAR Middle School Library Media Center is to produce students who are information literate and possess the tools and drive necessary to become lifelong learners. Additionally, it is the mission of the Library Media Center to collaborate with classroom teachers to enhance educational experiences. The DAR Middle School Library supports  and incorporates the College and Career Readiness Standards as well as Common Core Standards, that classroom curriculum is based upon, in addition to the American Association of School Librarians and the American Library Association publications, "Alabama Library Media Handbook for the 21st Century Learner", and "Empowering Learners:  Guidelines for School Library Media Programs,"  Additionally, the Library Media Center endorses the literacy principles of the Standards of the 21st Century Learner of the American Association of School Librarians.


7:40 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday -  Friday

The Library Media Center provides open access for all students.  The Library Media Center uses Follett Destiny as its automated management system. The Media Center has a variety of resources for students to use that support the School Curriculum and for recreational reading.

Media Center Policies:

  • Students may check out 2 books maximum at a time

  • Books are due two weeks from the date of check out, but may be renewed

  • Students will be fined ten cents a day per overdue book (*Overdue book = any book that has not been returned OR renewed by the date due)

  • Students are required to pay for damaged and/or lost books.

  • Students with outstanding checkouts/fines will NOT be permitted to check out a book until overdue books are returned or fines paid.

  • No food or drink allowed (water bottles acceptable).

  • Printing 10 cents per page

  • Marshall County Board of Education Computer Usage Policies must be followed. Failure to do so will result in loss of privileges.

  • All student accounts must be cleared with the Media Center before leaving DAR Middle School.
